Let me introduce you to my parents. Both hardworking people. Both victims of previous abusive marriages. Married for about 7 years now, and all 7 of those years have been challenging and disappointing. In 2001 after getting slightly ahead finacially, my parents attempted to buy their first house. As things turned for the better, they quickly went to hell. My father's wages started getting garnished after my birth mother went against their child-support agreement (my father had two children, she had one) and went to the state for child support. They lost over 400 a month in income, and about 6 months of trying to barely make bills, they had to find somewhere else to go. We ended up moving about 30 miles away to a much smaller town. We settled in a 2 bedroom hovel (there was 5 of us), because that was all they could find and afford. Shortly after that, my dad lost his car, and shortly after that, he was brought into his bosses office after serving 5 years, and laid off. (they told him for personal reasons) After trying for months to find work, Dad decided to try and go back to school and make a career switch. That worked for 6 months, but the stress of money and depression was starting to effect his marriage and health. He had to continue to look for a job. A few months later, in early 2003 he got a break, a job with an internet company...things again started to turn up. For 2 years you could say they had peace. Money was always tight, but they managed to save, they managed to get another car, they managed to pull alittle ahead. My dads job was going great, he was advancing in this small company...making friends, and working hard. They got yet another opportunity to buy a house...this time it was their dream house, and they were offered a sweet deal. Both parents knew if they turned this down, they would never get another opportunity. SO they took it, with the understanding that mom was working a second job, and Dad was getting a promotion in less than 3 months...his boss had already informed him....in early 2005, he was called into his bosses office (they were really good friends) and was informed that he was being let go...(was told the company was going under, and he made too much money for them to sustain his salary) Both of my parents freeked....they had just bought the house and were depending on the salary...what were they going to do? Dad searched and searched for work, and found another job, making less, but it was a job. they worked to keep the family going, barely getting by, but had faith that something was going to get better. Things only got worse...in Oct. 2006 he was laid off again, the exact reason is unknown to me, but let me tell you this, My dad is the most wonderful person ever...he works hard and he works diligently. He is one of the most loyal and dedicated people i know. This was the 2nd christmas in a row that he felt like a disappointment...and to make matters worse, his diabetes got worse, and he ended up spending christmas in the hospital. Its now May 2007, and nothing is getting better. His health, his dispostion is horrible. He's depressed, lonely, and bored. Their house is in foreclosure, because without his salary, it got too much to bare. They are to the point where they have nothing, no cars nothing....It breaks my heart because i cant do anything for them. Im a broke college student living off loans and working fulltime to pay my rent. BUT i need to do something. I love my parents sooo much and I would be devestated if something happened to them. Please, if there is anyone reading this who knows of anything i can do, please let me know. there has to be something out there I can do to help ease their finacial burden. This is a concerned daughter asking for help....
